The Programs
Stories are for sharing! Shark Island Kangaroo Valley brings artists and audiences together, from community and beyond, through a program of events at The Old Store and the community owned Upper River Hall. From new film screenings to pop-up exhibitions; showings, readings, poetry and music. Works in progress and works on tour.
SHARK ISLAND SESSIONS
Live intimate shows for community at The Old Store Kangaroo Valley, filmed and shared with the world; documenting the change-makers and the story-tellers of our times; real life told through music and poetry; theatre and writing; interviews with interesting people. The Old Store is a close-up and personal space for visiting artists to share their work with the Valley. A place for emerging artists to tell their tales and established artists to share their stories. Shark Island Sessions are filmed and recorded: allowing these live and intimate shows for community to be shared to a wider audience on our Shark Island Sessions platform and providing a vital show case for artists to share and archive their work in a meaningful and accessible way.
THE ARTSLAB
Our community arts program was founded in 2015, to bring artists and community together at the Upper River Hall, to share work and to explore the creative process. In partnership with the local Progress Association and with substantial support from Shark Island, this little community owned 1963 hall beside the river in the middle of paddocks, has been restored and equipped and has become a place of art, when not being used for local weddings and parties! The ARTSLAB offers artists who are, or have been, in residence at Shark Island, the opportunity to show their work, and the community the opportunity to experience new documentary film screenings, theatre, music, poetry, pop-up visual art exhibitions and always a good conversation.
