SYNOPSIS

Like many Australians, sports commentator and rising media star, Marlee Silva, lives and breathes rugby league.

As a proud Gamilaroi and Dunghutti woman, and daughter of one of the all-time greats of the sport, Rod “Rocket” Silva, she loves the community, opportunity and hope rugby brings many families, including her own.

But Marlee is conflicted. As much as she recognises the powerful sense of achievement and pride the NRL can bestow, especially on those from underprivileged backgrounds, she is also aware of what a complicated bargain this is. Australia’s most popular sport holds a mirror to who we are as a nation.

As someone with skin in the game, Marlee is determined to confront this — starting at home, with her own family, but also across the full diversity of the NRL today.

With unparalleled access to the players, their fans and families, as well as the sport’s leading influencers, Marlee will dive into the high-stakes world of rugby league to reveal what it says about Australia. In this intimate, brave documentary, she reveals the power of rugby to shape us as a nation: where we’ve been, how far we’ve come, and where we still need to go.
