SYNOPSIS

At age 11, Riss’s world quickly unravels. Removed from her family then thrust into a broken foster care system, Riss is made a ward of the state after countless family breakdowns. Riss battles homelessness and, to survive, she learns to fight. It turns out she’s pretty good. When legendary coach and owner of the oldest boxing gym in the country, Kel Bryant, first sees Riss fight, he sees a potential champion. In the ring, with Kel in her corner, Riss has a mentor and a safe home for the first time in her life. But the disconnection from family and culture has left scars, and it’s a daily struggle managing her mental health.

Riss’s first big win at the National Championships sharpens her resolve. Boxing is her way to a better life, and she sets her heart on the Olympics. In a phenomenal show of excellence, Riss qualifies for the 2024 Paris Olympics and is propelled into the spotlight. Competing for a country that celebrates Aboriginal athletes on the playing field but excludes them from the Constitution is conflicting enough but then a heartbreaking development just two months out from the Games when a public challenge to Riss’s Aboriginality comes from within her community.

Staring down the barrel of the fight of her life, can Riss overcome her traumas to make history in the ring?
