SYNOPSIS

Dr Debra Gook, the Australian scientist who made egg freezing possible for women worldwide has changed futures and opportunities for millions of people thanks to her career findings in cryofertility. Unknown in her home country, she’s now facing retirement, her laboratory dismantled, her work unfinished — what will her legacy be?

Chloe froze her eggs at 31. Instead of providing “insurance”, it forced her to ask: ‘what do I actually want?’ — as she explores alternative pathways than those she grew up expecting, she’s learning that there are many more elements in building a happy life than motherhood.

Tina, 35, always wanted to be a mother and now having survived cancer, she has her frozen eggs to draw upon, but there are additional considerations for her as a LGBTQIA+ woman. Can she navigate rainbow family planning with the support she needs in the state she resides and will her body allow her to carry?

The film follows Dr Gook’s legacy alongside two women using her technology: the director’s own journey grappling with authentic desire versus expectations, and a cancer survivor in a same-sex relationship figuring out how to build the family she wants. All three women ask themselves: what makes a meaningful life?
