Shark Island Institute established Documentary Australia Foundation (DAF) in 2006, formally launching the Foundation in 2008. Ian Darling was the founder of DAF and inaugural Chair from 2006 to 2011. He is Patron of DAF and Shark Island Institute continues to be a long-term supporter of the Foundation.
Documentary Australia Foundation is a unique not-for-profit that ensures important stories are told and seen, supported by powerful social impact campaigns. DAF provides approved projects with access to DGR status, allowing independent filmmakers to access philanthropic funding and enabling donors to tax effectively support the issues they care about. DAF’s networks, relationships and expertise enables the Foundation to connect talented storytellers with like-minded funders, educators, policy-makers and community groups.
